Item was fairly lightweight (aprox 12 oz). I removed the ladle and knives (redundancy in my backpack). I cooked over open fire and the pots held up fine. The utensils are nice, but know that they do not nest into the kit. Very good value IMO.
Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was that the cover was too small for the frying pan and the bowl/cups stained permanently after 1 cup of coffee. The sponge worked but is only good for a couple of uses.
I bought this mess kit for my son who was going on a one week survival type camping trip. I asked him how this kit worked for him and he has no complaints. He brought it back after cooking with it and using it for a week. I washed it for him to store it for next time. It comes in a mesh bag with a draw string which washes easily and dries quickly. The lid fit over the pots and pans very nicely. The bowls, laddle and spatula washed nicely and held up nicely. I like the fact the you are able to squeeze the medal handle of the laddle to remove it for thorough washing. The pans were in excellent condition after being used all week and exposed to open flame cooking. They did get slightly discolored from burned food but it was not a big deal at all. The handles on the pot and pan were sturdy and well made. The only thing that I would have changed about these is the way it stores. It all goes back in the mesh bag (which is great) but for some reason I could not get the pans to nestle quite right. Maybe that is because I didn't open and see how they were shipped by the manufacturer. All in all, I recommend these for camping. My daughter will be using this kit when she has her survival camping trip later this year.
