NEMO Losi 3P Gear Loft

Customer Reviews

It seemed like it would be a good product, in terms of utility, but I really don't see the point. The NEMO Losi 3p has quite a nice pocket system inside the tent already. This gear loft has only 2 pockets. From the graphic it appears quite sizable, and I assumed -- yeah, my fault -- that the loft must have quite a system of pockets and ties and other innovative things for overhead storage. Nope. Just two pockets about 18" long and a few inches deep.

The gear loft provides an great addition to the awesome NEMO Losi 3P. It not only provides storage but a great way to dry-out wet clothes.

About Nemo EquipmentIn 2002, Cam Brensinger incorporated Nemo Equipment, Inc with the intention of bringing high-level design and engineering to the outdoor industry. Only two months later, following his graduation, Cam moved Nemo into an historic mill in Nashua, NH. A quick drive from both New Hampshire's White Mountains and the great design and business resources available from connections at RISD and MIT, Nashua was the perfect location to establish the company headquarters. Much of the first year was spent learning how to sew and pattern and developing Nemo's AirSupported Technology. Tents were chosen as Nemo's first product line because Cam saw the opportunity to bring significant new innovation to the market and knew that successfully revolutionizing tents would give Nemo the credibility to move into new product lines in the future.
Since then, Nemo has won many awards in the outdoor industry, including Gear of the Year from Outside Magazine for the Losi 3P tent. Nemo contributes it's success to the brand's vision to be the leading source of product innovation for outdoor recreation and survival while using creativity to inspire respect for the planet, a love of adventure, and a love of the people and places that make adventure possible.

Extremely helpful for storing, organizing and sheltering gear, the NEMO Losi 3P Gear Loft allows you to stow clothes or gear overhead and out of the way in your Losi 3P tent (sold separately).

Customer Reviews

i love this chair. i've been researching director chairs for a while now, and as a makeup artist, it's so important to have the right equipment to work effectively. i didnt realize there were different models of tall aluminum director's chairs like "heavy duty". im am so happy i bought this. it saves my back. looks super professional. has that "expsensive appeal". is extremely sturdy. the weight capacity is huge (no pun intended). it's comfy. folds up for easy portability and storage. the price is a STEAL ; standard shipping was free. i received my package way earlier than i expected. im so glad i waited ; researched before i bought just any old chair. i recommend this chair for all makeup artists. the little side table ; extra pockets are super convenient.if you're serious about your work ; making a lasting impression, invest in this chair. the seat height is about 31 inches from the ground. which is perfect for me. im 5'8.....i would say if your shorter than 5'2, u might have to wear heels to comfortably reach ur clients face.

I'm a make up artist and my back is always killing me due to my clients being too low and me hunching over. I just pulled it out and it is so tall and has a sturdy tray! MSR Dragonfly Stove

Customer Reviews

I got this stove to replace another MSR stove, the Whisperlite, which burned in house fire years ago and it has turned out to be an excellent stove. Here is a run down on my experience and impressions of the stove:
Performance - As with most other decent stoves, this one can boil water quickly, so that's not news. What it does do, however, that many do not is take the flame down to the lowest simmer. This is a great feature if you are doing some serious cooking that requires precise flame control. I've found the flame spread on this stove to be relatively narrow, so it's a good thing you can dial the flame down so as not to completely scorch what you are heating. The stove is extremely stable, with pot supports that can handle larger size pots and pans. It has a self-cleaning jet that has worked flawlessly when using standard white gas, and has been very reliable.
Size - It folds up pretty small and it is light enough, but it's still larger in these dimensions than the smallest stoves out there if only by a little. I don't store mine in my cook kit as it won't fit; that's OK by me, though, as there's always something in my pack that I can fit in there to save space.
Flexibility - As with the international version of the Whisperlite, this stove can burn different fuels, some with the same jet that uses white gas, and others with the included jet for heavier fuels like kerosene or diesel. This is an nice feature, I think, and makes it valuable component of your disaster preparedness kit in addition to regular camping and backpacking duty.
Noise - You've heard it before, and it's a fact with this stove: this puppy is noisy as all get out. Embarrassingly so, sometimes. I've had campers at adjacent sites look over to see what was going on when I cranked my stove up to full blast, and it makes me feel self-conscious sometimes when I'm cooking in the near-dead silence of a remote campsite. Don't use this stove if you want to be able to hear someone or something sneaking up on you, or if the hiss of a gas lantern (mild by comparison) bothers you.
Value - This one gives me a bit of pause. I think this is an excellent stove and despite some quirks (namely noise) I really love it. When the excellent Whisperlite can be had for so much less (even the international version) it is hard to justify unless you really, truly need that fine flame control or the security of having something a little more stable than most micro stoves.
Other thoughts - If you are only using your stove to boil water for purification or to rehydrate food, then I would go with a less expensive option where you don't need a fine flame control. Generally, I really prefer this kind of stove, with its fuel flexibility, over those that use a propane or propane/butane canister. I like the thought of being able to use gasoline or diesel in an emergency situation if I needed to. And, while I have had very good luck with canisters using my Gaz 470 (that I absolutely LOVE and still use on a regular basis) I wouldn't want that to be my only camp stove.
Be sure to use the heat shield and windscreen that come with this stove to protect the pump and fuel bottle; their use should not be considered an option. The stove is easy to prime using priming paste or a squirt of fuel let through the valve once you have pressurized the bottle. The stove comes complete with pump and basic tools to clean and/or change the jet, heat shield and wind screen, as well as a usable stuff sack.

As mentioned, this stove is loud, extremely loud, at any setting. It has a very wide range - you can simmer without scorching thick stews or boil 4L of water in no time flat. Be aware however, that it can melt a hole in the wind screen or heat defuser just as easily. Or scorch the bottom of your pots about as fast - I've two to clean up at the moment.
Find the absolute lowest simmer setting right out of the box - you'll want to use it most of the time. When it's time to boil water crank it up loud.
It's a fuel miser compared to the WhisperLite.
The flexible hose is still short, stiff and stupid like other MSR stoves.
Stuff sack is too small for what we travel with.

Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent

Customer Reviews

I purchase this tent and used it the next day. The good: Lots of interior room, enough for 2 adults and 2 small backpacks. I was even able to fit a queen size coleman inflatable mattress inside(At home to test it)with room to spare. Very easy to set up, I read the instructions and timed myself, it took me 10 minutes. With screen mesh all around it was very comfortable, even with the Texas summer heat. Comes with a 5 year warranty. The bad: At 6 pounds Is a little on the heavy side for most solo backpackers(I personally don't mind the weight in exchange for all the room). The tent isn't free standing, make sure to get good stakes for hard or rocky ground. It didn't rain when I used it, so I can't comment on how waterproof it is, but I always seal the seams on all my tents as soon as I buy them.

WOW! this tent is amazing. It had enough room to sleep two comfortably. It also had a vestibule for wet shoes or boots and maybe a backpack. Like most places the weather in my back yard was in a dry state so my dad and I tested it with the gardening hose. At first we did the regular rain and it was completely dry except for under the vestibule where the velcro on the door wasn't closed. After that we did the thunderstorm in which he aimed the hose directly at the tent and it still did not leak. After that I spent the night in it. When I woke up the next morning it was completely dry, and there were no dead bugs like in my bad, store brand tent that I had previosly. I would definately give this tent five stars and I would recommend it to friends and campers/backpackers everywhere.

About ColemanThe Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957--the birth of the modern cooler--and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.
Amazon.com Tent GuideSelecting a TentFortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the WorstIn general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season TentsFor summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes, Tunnels and SacksTents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size MattersAsk yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Great for first time backpacking/motorcycle camping/scouts. One pole design and full rainfly offer easy setup and protection from the elements. Weather Tec System - guaranteed to keep you dry. Center height 55". 2 person capacity.

  • Lightweight, one-pole design tent for two campers

GSI Outdoors H2JO! Percolator

Customer Reviews

Bought this months ago, and now that I've used it on a few camping trips I love it. I bought a Nalgene wide mouth bottle to go with it, and it's now the dedicated coffee bottle since the plastic retains the coffee flavor and anything you put in the bottle after tastes like coffee. You could probably get the taste out by cleaning the bottle with boiling water, but I've never bothered.
No matter which method you use (the packaging explains 2 ways to use it) you WILL get some grounds in your coffee...If you're the type who camps and uses simple methods like this it probably won't bother you, I don't mind. The directions specify "coarse ground" coffee which I cannot find pre-ground, so I go to the supermarket that has a coffee grinder.
All in all it has lived up to expectations and works as advertised.
If no grounds ended up in the coffee I'd give it 5 stars.

This is my second H2Jo. I got this one for my wife because I loved mine so much, and because we go on at least a few trips with large groups each year. Two H2Jos keep the coffee flowing freely even with 16+ drinkers one is perking while the other is pouring and there are two pots of water heating up for the next round, try doing that with a traditional percolator. When I'm alone I always do the Cowboy method because I like my coffee strong, and carrying the grounds in the bottle when hiking means that I don't have to use a seperate container for coffee on one-nighters. The only con is that the screen is a bit course for premium ground coffee, we grind our own usually so we just have to remember to leave it a little coarser than usual.

Reliance Products Bio-Blue Toilet Deodorant Packaged (12-Pack)

Customer Reviews

I've been using Bio-Blue Toilet Deodorant for most of the past seven years. I'm a commercial truck driver, and I often get stuck parking for the night at customer locations where toilets are either unavailable, or locked. I've carried a Passport Potty for these situations, and ended up using it nightly to save hikes across dark truck stop parking lots. (I wrote an Amazon review of the Passport Potty a while ago.)
I used Bio-Blue until Wal-Mart stopped carrying it, then switched to the other brands Wal-Mart carried, and began looking for another source of Bio-Blue. I finally found Bio-Blue again at Amazon. Bio-Blue is also less expensive than the other brands I found in my area.
Bio-Blue is packaged as dry granules in small, dissolving pouches. This is ideal when you're traveling, because all of the liquid products I tried leaked if the bottles fell over (and in one case, while still upright.) You drop one packet into the toilet with a small amount of water (to allow the wrapper to dissolve before you use the potty.) My potty was a small model so I'd use one packet about once a week, so one box of Bio-Blue usually lasted me a complete tour on the road. Open the box and there is a ziplock-type bag inside which protects the contents from accidental water exposure. Bio-Blue used to come in a small white plastic tub with just the packets inside. I saved a tub and I transfer the bag into the tub. You might find it in the tub rather than the box shown in the picture.
I've tried a number of products, and all of those other products call themselves 'waste digesters'. These do their job, but they also produce very smelly gas as a byproduct. When you flush a potty, a certain volume of waste enters the tank and displaces a like volume of air back into the environment. When that environment is a small, enclosed space, the results are not pleasant.
Bio-Blue is a deodorant, not a digester, and so it does not produce those extra odors upon flushing. I never really noticed any difference in the waste I was pouring out of my potty, other than the color and the reduced smell for Bio-Blue vs the other (digester) products. Note that even Bio-Blue won't make a potty's waste tank smell like roses if you are silly enough to stick your face in the bowl while flushing. Emptying my potty indoors can stink up the bathroom no matter what product I use, but the Bio-Blue-treated waste was less of a stink problem than the digester-treated waste. Still, it's always better to find a free RV dump station.

We have used this product for over 11 years at our vacation trailer by the lake. Works the best of anything we had tried before. No measuring, easy to use, toss in and done. Has not hurt our spetic unit. Product used to be carried by Walmart, but when they stopped we started ordering online because we liked it so much.

Sport-Brella DLX Chair

Customer Reviews

This chair started out great. Unfortunately the umbrella will not work with a strong breeze. My umbrella was turned inside out and I've had to return the chair.

The best chair I've ever had. My daughter plays travel softball, my son does travel baseball, we are literally at the ballpark every weekend, weeknights, everywhere. We've been playing travel all seasons for 8 years. This Chair is Very sturdy, easy to use, comfortable with great adjustable umbrella. Bright sun is no longer an issue, we don't have to look for shades while watching the games or practices, or bring huge umbrellas and big tents. The punched pouch at the left arm is a huge plus for casing my iPods while I listen to my music during game delays. I've tried all portable folding chairs of Coleman, Kelsyus Canopy chair, Strathwood folding chairs, Kijaro portable chairs, and different types of Mac sports folding portable chairs. But none of them could compare to the quality and comfort of this chair.Take it from me, ( "an expert collector of chairs" ), this chair is amazing! I'm actually buying some more to stock up, just in case this becomes unavailable soon.

Camp Chef Bulk Tank Hose/Adapter

Customer Reviews

This five foot Camp Chef Hose feels like it is made from heavy materials. The small brass fitting works very well on all of my camping accessories like propane stoves, heaters, and of course my new Camp Chef Stove/Oven. The larger plastic fitting that connects to the bulk sized tanks is well constructed, but feels like it could have been made from stronger material. I worry that it could be possible to strip the treads if one was to over tighten the fitting. So far everything has worked superbly.

This adapter hose worked great to fuel my Coleman Northstar lantern all night when we were car camping, from a 20 propane tank. The side with the knob is very easy to twist onto the 20 propane cylinder by hand, and the other brass end is cast with a diamond grip pattern so you can turn it snugly into the small appliance on the other end of the hose without leaks, and using no tools. I like it!

The fabric is like most other cheap tarps, my beef is that one of the corner holes was missing the eyelet. All the others were there. I guess they must have poor inspection in the factory.

Texsport Campfire Tripod

Customer Reviews

Very sturdy, multiple hook options for your dutch oven for temperature control. Very sturdy and not too cumbersome. Wouldn't recommend for a backpacker as it is made of cast iron, but great for a group outing

Yes, even with the length of the legs listed, it was still shorter in person than I expected. The product image can be a bit misleading, making it look taller than it is. This is the reason I knocked off a star.
Once review listed for this product must have been placed for the wrong item. This has no grill portion. It is simply a tripod with a chain from which to hang your dutch oven over your camp fire. You're going to have to hang it at a certain height to begin with, so one should expect to bend over a bit to get in and work with it.
All of that aside, this product is well made. Nice heavy chain, and sturdy legs. Just make sure you have the legs in the right position, so that it is sturdy enough to hang your oven from.
As a bonus, you can use this in other ways as well.
You can hang your lantern from it, provided it's not windy, for example. I'm sure you can think of some other handy uses, since it will be there anyway.
Overall, this is a great way to maximize use of your dutch oven without having to mess with a lot of extra charcoal.

Coleman Nesting Chow Kit

Customer Reviews

I brought this product as a staple to my camping backpack and my "go bag" and it works so well for the price.
As a person who was concerned about whether the knife would be sharp enough and whether the set would stay together, I was presently surprised. The entire set fits snugly together and won't rattle around in your backpack. I would say to be careful when using the spork though because the fork tips are pretty sharp and could possible stab your tongue/mouth if you are rushing to eat. Other than that I can't think of any cons to the set.
Pros:
-Utensils fit together well.
-Knife is sharp to cut the even the toughest foods.
-Having a spork and a real spoon is great when you can't decide when you want to eat with a fork or spoon.
-Environmentally friendly alternative to using disposable utensils.
Cons:
-The spork is pretty sharp and could be a hazard especially if used by children but should not be a problem for 95% of the population who will use this product during camping or even for lunch at work.

I would give it a better score but i had to sand the spoon edges down. the first time i used the spoon it cut the inside of my upper lip. it wasnt noticeable until i looked in the mirror because i felt an irritation. after closer inspection i found two small on inch cuts bleeding.
other wise this product is amazing. i keep mine in my tool box at work.

Melissa and Doug Sunny Patch Flex Octopus Chair

Customer Reviews

I ordered this melissa and doug sunny patch flex octopux chair for my grandson and when it arrived he was so excited. It is for us to take to the beach next month, but for right now he likes sitting in it and watching tv in the livingroom. Would totally recommend this chair.

Bought this chair for use during a recent beach trip. Truth be told my daughter hardly used it at the beach, she sat in it more at home before we left. It worked well however and seems sturdy plus easy to carry and store. Hopefully it will get plenty of use over the years.

Genji Sports Pop Up Outdoor Family Tent

Customer Reviews

I have owned a genji pop-up beach tent for a while, and so far, it has worked wonderfully. Wanting something that could also be used for trips to the park or camping, I recently purchased this outdoor tent because it can be zipped up both in the front and back. My husband and I used it recently on our vacation and it worked great! My kids loved it, and I had an excellent afternoon nap on the beach. The way the tent zips up completely is an added convenience. It works great as a changing station. It also helps keep the bugs out of our food when we have picnics at the park!

This tent seemed great the first time we used it. Poped up easily and folded down nice. The second time we used it the zipper broke on the carry bag. The third time we used it the tent started ripping along the supports in 2 places. The zippers on the tent seem like they will break soon too. I was very disappointed in the cheap material used for this tent. It ended up costing $70 with shipping to be used 3 times. We may get one more use out of this tent before it needs thrown away. It was a great idea and my 5 month old, 2 yr old, and 4 yr old seem to enjoy it but very poorly made.

Duogreen Spork 4 Pack Magnetic Set for Camping Picnic Outdoor Activity

Customer Reviews

I have used a spork with the knife edge on the fork and just hated it, scrapes against the side of your lips and is too flimsy to really cut anything.
I ordered this, the price was right, and wow, can even contain them so they don't get lost. The edges are nice and smooth and the material is substantial. You can even toss all 4 of them on a picnic table and they stay together.
I like them so much I am going to order a couple more sets for my kids who have small children.

Reliance Products Luggable Loo Portable 5 Gallon Toilet

Customer Reviews

Simple yet ingenious design. Sturdy seat and lid close securly over the 5 gallon bucket, so there is no danger of sliding off, or sinking into the bucket while completing your business. Just don't try to transport the bucket any great distance if you filled it, because the seat lid is not a liquid tight seal.
For easier clean-up, I would recommend using small trash bags as liners for each use. When you're done simply remove the liner, tie-up, throw away, and install a new one. Does away with the odor and mess.
Very useful when your camping and nature comes calling at 3 AM, when the bathroom is a mile down the road.

Once receiving this item I realized I would have been better off buying just the tiolet seat and getting a taller 7 gallon bucket at the hardware store so I wouldn't have to stoop so low. This is a hurricane emergency item for me so I have not actually used it but it's not too hard to imagine. I also purchased biohazard bags from another company to use with it. If I need to use the luggable loo, I'll just thow a scoop of clumping cat litter in there to keep the stink down and absorb any liquid. I think my cats will be eyeing me rather funny.

Coleman Deck Chair With Table

Customer Reviews

My mother has short legs and due to thyroid problems and Muscular Dystrophy has problems getting out of chairs. My mom tried all different chairs and of those available these were the most comfortable for her and as it turned out, for the rest of the family.
The chairs went on a month long trip to Alaska, they've been on numerous camping and fishing and hunting trips and have performed admirable. Five years later, they are still going strong and two of them are main furnishings in my nephews college apartment.
These chairs will hold much more than 225 lbs, they will easily hold 325 lbs and have done so many times as the men in our family are wide and muscular and several weigh in the 280 to 325 lb range.
Overall, everyone in our family from the big ones to the skinny ones loves these chairs. I just can't say enough positives about them.

I bought this folding chair as a present from our tennis team to our captain, who always seemed to be uncomfortable in his "umbrella" type fold-up chair. Sure enough, it is VERY comfy, just the right height and the frame is good and sturdy. The side table is a nice touch and quite handy. I was ready to give it 5 stars and a hearty recommendation, BUT... After my pal took the chair on a trip, about the third or fourth time he actually sat in it one of the fabric seams in the seat part sustained about a 5 inch tear! Now he is no tiny guy, but he certainly isn't huge, and I don't see a maximum weight limit in the product description. Since I can't see any other reviewers having this problem, maybe it was a defective sewing job, or maybe "big but not huge" is just too much for this chair. Since the Amazon 30-day return period is over, my friend is going to live with the torn seam as long as he can. Too bad - it is otherwise a good buy.

Coleman High Stand for use with Coleman 2 or 3 Burner Stoves or a Chest

Customer Reviews

I bought this item with a Coleman camping stove, which has turned out to be excellent (the stove). Regardless of whether you extend this stand fully or peg the legs in place IT IS NOT SAFE. The liklihood that your stove will fall through this stand is extremely high. I spent a long time experimenting with it before being forced to return it and buy a table. On the package another suggested use is as a stand for suspending a rubbish bag. If that is all that it can be used for, it's not worth the cash. A redesign is needed.

We own two of these stove stands, and we are considering a third as an addition, not a replacement. We purchased the stands 8 to 10 years ago, and have used them several times each year. They are none the worse for wear. We put our 2-burner camp stove on one stand and the ice chest on a second one. Based on the design of our current stove, we must carefully gauge the proper width of the stand for the stove, but once it is set up, it is perfect. The feet of the stand have holes for staking the stand in conditions where you might feel a need to do so, such as when set up on uneven terrain, or if you anticipate people or pets might be inclined to bump into it. Overall, we find the stands to be very stable. I like this design over a camp "kitchen" because it allows me the flexibility of setting up each component individually, based on the characteristics of the camp site. This stand cannot be beat for portability: lightweight and extremely compact when collapsed. Sometimes we place a board over the top of the stand to make a portable table for preparation, dishwashing, or to support a small grill.
As for price, we paid $20 for the original purchase, and the current price is not that much more; I consider the Coleman High Stand an excellent value.

Eureka! Tetragon 1610 - Tent (sleeps 9)

Customer Reviews

I recently bought a Greatland Piece of GARBAGE tent from Target and got rained on inside the tent AND two of the poles broke. When a tent truly "leaks" it leaks through the fly, from the top of the tent, and drips on you and your stuff. Needless to say I returned it and got my money back.
So I decided to buy a Eureka! 1610 because of the reputation.
This tent is VERY easy to set up! There's only 4 poles Pretty much idiot proof! Directions are very clear. I set it up myself out of the box in less than 20 minutes! The clips are very easy to use! You have to get the poles right though because they're different sizes (main poles are beefier) but the directions are very clear on this. Bottom line, set up with 2 people should take 10 minutes tops!
You could tell the difference in quality from the less expensive Coleman and Greatland brands (although, I've had great luck with Coleman!) and the Eureka. The fly and tent are waterPROOF, not water RESISTANT (there's a difference!) like cheaper tents. This doesn't mean you don't have to seal the seams though It says right in the directions of most if not all tents to seal non factory sealed seams Many beginners don't realize this and end up with a little water and think there's something wrong with the tent. It's also important to use a ground cloth (tarp) underneath that's just slightly smaller than the tent!
So, I set the tent up in my yard because there were nasty storms moving in so I wanted to put it to the test. Over the next day and a half it stormed and rained non stop! It rained about 7 inches during that time Extreme downpours! I looked at my tent and thought "there's no way it's not leaking with this wind and rain." I went out in the rain the next day(got soaked!) and looked inside. Even though I hadn't sealed the seams yet the fly was not leaking AT ALL! There was a little water by each door. And when I say a little, I mean about a half gallon total in the tent.... that's it... for 7 inches of rain in 36 hrs Soaked it all up with a towel. I was amazed! I'm quite confident that when I seal the seams it will be even better
If you want a tent that stays bone dry in a storm, buy a camper! If you expect you don't have to seal the seams of your tent, think again! As for this tent, you can't beat the quality for such a low price!

I have had great sucess with the many Eureka tents I use personally and also with our Boy Scout troop (and these boys abuse the tents). It sounds like some people buy the tent and bring it on their campout. Tents should be assembled prior to camping to get a feel of how to set-up and take-down. Also when it is set up in your yard you can do the most important task - water proof the seams to prevent leaking. Most tents must be seam sealed to prevent leaks, campers know this, first timers may not. I have the Tetragon 12x10 and many others that have weathered many storms.

About EurekaThough the exact year is unknown, Eureka’s long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent ; Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company’s annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka’s new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women’s Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.
Domes and TunnelsTents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright.

Colossal family size! 3 room, 3 season Tetragon Dome is one gigantic shelter that sleeps 9. Loads of elbow room. Check out this multi-room, 3-season tent with clear windows in the roof, plus built-in mud mat. Removable, zippered dividers can be rolled back to reveal one spacious shelter... or close 'em to create 3 separate rooms for kids or privacy. Lodge Logic 8-Quart Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron Camp Dutch Oven

Customer Reviews

This is the classic size Dutch Oven that is used by boy scouts, girl scouts, chuck wagon cooks, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. My review is mostly limited to the outdoor uses of this wonderful classic dutch oven, but I use one at home as well. This model is a 12 dutch oven which is the "standard" size most commonly used, but there many sizes bigger and smaller. This one holds 8 quarts, measuring 12" in diameter by 5" tall. It has the tripod legs and a recessed lid best suited for cooking in coals. But those legs make it harder to use in a conventional oven, you need to maneuver the legs if possible onto your grill rack. They make a legless version with the domed lid for a home oven, and I have used it in a fire as well. On this model, you can even flip this lid over and use it as a skillet in a pinch if you need to in camp. You can do it all with a Dutch Oven - cobblers, stews, beans, roasts, dumplings, you name it. It is the ultimate "one pot" pan.
QUALITY: There is a reason you can find old cast iron pans in antique stores, it lasts forever. I have quite a few pans and stuff inherited from family members and even some garage sale finds. I have found pans rusted and abused to where they would head for the trash bin if they were made of anything else, but you can bring cast iron back with some elbow grease and a re-seasoning or two. While my modern expensive non-stick cookware seems to last no more than a few years before replacement in my kitchen, but this stuff can easily last many decades of daily use. Lodge has a life time warranty! I love to cook with cast iron even at home, it is so durable, but I can take it camping too. Easy to clean up, the only drawback being it is heavy and hard on your wrists as you get older. Cast iron takes a bit longer to heat up, but the heat transfers very evenly without hot spots and it retains its heat for a long time. It can go from stovetop to oven with ease. Do not use it at temperatures higher than 500 degrees, as it can crack. I am not sure why, but people swear certain foods just taste better in cast iron. I believe that cast iron only improves with use and proper care instead of wearing out like other pans. As for Lodge, there really is a big difference in quality, their current pans are noticeably better than the other brands.
SEASONING FINISH: Seasoning of cast iron cookery does not refer to flavor, but the finish, a kind of glaze on the pan. I love old pans because they have the best seasoning, the older the better. I have inherited many old pans. The modern version sold here is "pre-seasoned" and ready to cook in, but we used to have to season these ourselves in the old days. It needs to stay black and a bit shiny inside to stay seasoned. If you do lose your seasoning due to rust or an overaggressive cleaning, simply wipe it with oil inside and out and place it in a hot oven for about 20 minutes or so. Let it cool in the oven slowly and naturally to room temperature again. It also helps to wipe it with a paper towel of oil after cleaning, or spray it with cooking oil and wipe. If it gets rusty, re-season it, you can get it like new again. DO NOT cook on it without re-seasoning though, as the food will stick. A note on what type of oil to use for seasoning, if you can do so use bacon grease, lard or butter, vegetable oil can sometimes get a little sticky in the pan and does not seem to get enough glaze as the animal based fats in my experience.
CLEANING: There is a debate on the cleaning of cast-iron that is as old as the pans, as to whether to use soap or not and how that affects sanitation. The Lodge company recommends cleaning without soap, but some people do so under certain circumstances. To clean without soap wash it with hot water or boil hot water in it and scrub it with a long handle brush or plastic scrubber, but never a metal scrubber as you can scratch the seasoning glaze. If you do use soap be sure it is very mild, maybe just dip your scrubber in the dishwater but don't immerse your pan in it. Immediately drying the pan is critical to its care either way, as soon as you clean the pan hand dry it with a paper towel and re-oil the pan immediately. For the most part, cast iron is non-stick as long as it is seasoned. If you use the pan on a fire, you can get soot on the exterior. An old Boy Scout trick to keep the exterior clean of soot if used on a campfire, is to treat the pan prior to cooking in the following manner. First wipe the pan (exterior only!) with some wet soap or a wet SOS pad, then let it dry before using it on the fire. Then when you are ready for washing, the soap has laid a protective layer over the exterior surface and the soot just wipes right off when you clean up with water.
ACCESSORIES: There are plenty of terrific Dutch oven and cast iron cook books here at Amazon.com. You can also get videos/DVD on Dutch Oven cooking like the one with Cee Dub. You can get affordable accessories too such as a Dutch oven tote bag, tongs, lid lifter, lid stand, and gloves. To be safe if cooking on coals or fire, use the lid lifter accessory, it will keep you from getting burned. I highly recommend this pan, and have decades of experience behind that statement, enjoy your cobbler!

In more than a decade of outdoor cooking experience, I have learned one valuable lesson: always trust anything from Lodge. This rule has been tested on everything from a simple skillet to the monster dutch ovens crafted to feed an army. In all those years, Lodge has never failed me.
I tried to save money by using cast iron utensils from other firms, and have paid dearly for it. No body has the durability, the skill, or the quality of Lodge. There is something magic about the Lodge method of manufacturing, and that magic is worth every penny that you pay for. When you purchase from Lodge, you aren't simply buying a pot or skillet, you're acquring a lifelong companion that your children will be using when you are gone.
I have 5 dutch ovens of various sizes, numerous skillets and griddles, and all of them bear the Lodge name and logo, and all of them still perform just like they did when I first got them, although they have improved with age because the taste and the smell of the food that comes from them says it all.
Trust me, friends: you can save money by buying another brand, but you will be making a grave mistake. Don't try to be cheap, buy Lodge and prepare yourself for a quality product that will last for a long, long time.
Lodge Logic 8-Quart Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron Camp Dutch Oven

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Lodge cast-iron cookware has long been admired for its superior heat retention and even heat distribution, but now the company adds another enticement with its Lodge Logic line. All Lodge Logic cookware, including this 8-quart camping Dutch oven, comes preseasoned via a proprietary "electrostatic" vegetable-oil spray system and is ready for cooking right out of the box--unlike traditional Lodge cookware, which needs seasoning in your home oven before use. During the timesaving preseasoning process, oil penetrates deeply into the cast-iron surface while a high-temperature gas oven seals it in, preserving the cookware for generations and creating an attractive heirloom finish.
The Dutch oven measures 12 inches in diameter and 5 inches deep--an ideal size for making a large batch of stew or outdoor casserole. The vessel is also suited for boiling water, making rice, or heating up soup, as its cast-iron material delivers a smooth, consistent temperature without wasting heat. The pan's esteemed heat retention particularly enhances slow-cooking recipes that call for tender meats and rich, seasoned flavors. As with all of Lodge's camping cookware, the bottom of the pan includes integral legs for campfire and fireplace cooking. In addition, the flanged lid can hold hot coals or be inverted for use as a griddle, letting campers enjoy their morning flapjacks and sausages. With proper care, Lodge Logic cast-iron cookware will last a lifetime. Lodge recommends hand washing the oven, which carries a lifetime warranty, with a stiff brush and hot water.
Seasoned and ready to use. This 8 quart portable "camp stove" is the pot that does it all. Flanged lid for hot coals inverts for use as griddle. Integral legs on oven for campfire and fireplace cooking. 12 inch diameter, 5 inch deep

Katadyn Pocket Water Microfilter

Customer Reviews

The Katadyn pocket has a well-deserved reputation for reliability and durability. It is one of the pricier filters but is also rated to pump much more water than its competitors. The Katadyn pocket isn't light (20 oz), but the better competitor pumps are also about 16 oz., so this isn't too much heavier. Some of the others pump a little faster, but they are usually 0.3 micron filters, whereas this is a superior 0.2 micron filter. The Katydin pocket is also the only pump with a lifetime warranty (excluding wear of the ceramic filter).
If you search the web, you'll find a lot of reports of the $75 pumps eventually breaking, especially plastic handles. If you have to replace them (or their short-lived filters), you've already well into what it would cost to buy a Katadyn Pocket. This thing is pretty damn tough, and the only way to break it would be to take it apart and drop the inner ceramic filter.
I've found it easy to use, though you need to hold it upright to keep water flowing. During 8 years of trips through the Sierra Nevada, Utah, New Hampshire, and Wyoming this filter has never disappointed.
General tips to extend the lifetime of any water filter:
1) Use running water from streams/rivers whenever possible
2) Position the floater so that water inflow comes from the top of the stream and not the bottom (where a lot of sediment stirs about)
3) Rubber band a coffee filter around the prefilter to keep particulate matter out.
4) After pumping, unscrew the filter and drain the excess water. This filter is silver-impregnated though, to prevent microbial growth.
If you want to keep your packing weight down, carry your water in collapsible water bladders instead of thick plastic bottles. You can buy a cheap adapter so that water is pumped from the filter right into the water bladder. If you search around the web you can find the Katydin Pocket for around 180 or less. I tend to pack light and have lots of fancy lightweight gear, but I am serious about my water sources and don't plan to compromise on this beauty.

In 1980, this thing was $180 at REI. After a bad experience with the Lifesaver LS6000 last year, I finally pulled the trigger for the Katadyn Pocket. This review compares my experience using the Katadyn Pocket Micro/external carbon cartridge/Steripen Classic as a system vs the Lifesaver LS6000/4000 water purifier. I won't spend much time on the external carbon cartridge and Steripen here because they will be reviewed separately with links to them at the end of this review. Use this review to supplement what others are saying.
I originally chose the Lifesaver LS6000 (also now available through Amazon) over the Katadyn for a remote Arizona camping trip because it was a PURIFIER rather than just a filter. The LS6000 (LS4000 is the same technology, just smaller capacity) seemed like it would be more convenient because in actual operation, it is essentially a single, self contained collector/water bottle with an integrated activated carbon filter. But after a frustrating 1 week experience with the LS6000 putting GALLONS of water through trying to get rid of a cheap plastic taste, I finally returned it to the distributor.
I paid return shipping for the privilege of testing the LS6000 and I still wasn't going to have a filter for my trip. Not too happy about that. While it was probably filtering to the 15NM spec, more than 13 times the filtering power of the Katadyn (200NM), it just didn't hold up to the video claims that the water produced tasted like bottled water. That was my only real beef with the LS6000. See my review under the LS6000.
The backup plan was to order the Swiss made Katadyn Pocket Microfilter, along with the Katadyn activated carbon filter cartridge and the Steripen Classic...all at fantastic sale prices + free super saver shipping at Amazon. The Pocket retails for $289 and I paid $189 with free super saver shipping. Source the Eneloop batteries for the Steripen from whom you choose, but they are the only batteries I recommend for the Steripen. It took 8 months to get everything together but the batteries taking advantage of Amazon's best discounts.
With the 2 hoses (intake/output) plus the charcoal filter cartridge and Steripen, this system becomes a bit more of a project to filter and purify water than the Lifesaver. But, I have to say that that in terms of water that was just pure joy to drink, this busier (and initially pricier) setup was superior to the simpler Lifesaver system. I was also into this combination for about $313 for everything ready for the wilderness vs $179 for the LS6000 on Amazon.
Another downside of the Katadyn is that after you are done with it, it's a little busier to put away. It's a good idea to remove the hoses, carbon cartridge taking care to put the output hose (along with the carbon cartridge) in a separate ziplock bag to prevent cross contamination. The covers for the hose connection ports should be installed, also to prevent cross contamination. It all fits in the Katadyn's pouch. If you used the Steripen, too, then you should dry it off, recap it and return it to its ventilated neoprene pouch. With the Lifesaver, you just close the teat, snap the cap back over the teat and put the bottle back in your pack.
Using the Katadyn with the Steripen- Much of what I've read points to treating for viruses in pristine free running North American waters possibly being overkill. In clear running mountain streams I probably wouldn't bother with the Steripen as the Pocket alone probably will take care of the "bugs" that would be found under those conditions and the carbon cartridge will do its job to provide the fresh clean taste you might expect. However, the closer you get to high use areas by people and animals, the more I would look at some way of dealing with the potential for viruses, e.g., Steripen. Treating with the Steripen takes about 90 seconds for 1 liter of water and 48 seconds for 16 oz. The LS6000 removes viruses during the filtering process without the need for any further treatments. I would be cautious drawing water from sources where boats with fossil fuel motors operate no matter which filter system is used..
I tested the output of the Katadyn without its optional carbon filter under the same conditions as the LS6000 and found the water also had an off taste, most likely imparted by the ceramic filter. The taste wasn't the same or as offensive as the LS6000 with its integrated activated carbon filter, but you could still pick up that the Katadyn's output was "off". I put the Katadyn activated carbon filter on the end of the output hose, pumped a new cup of water and VOILA(!), the water was PERFECT!
IMPORTANT UPDATE 5/12/2010
Re: Off taste in Katadyn Pocket Microfilter-- After reading reports of others obtaining the fresh clean water taste WITHOUT an activated carbon filter, I pursued this a little further. After drying the filter for a few days, I reassembled everything and tried again, except this time NO CARBON FILTER. After pumping 12 oz of water through the dry filter into a measuring cup, there was NO OFF TASTE AT ALL. Referring to the user guide it says to flush .5L (~1 pt) of water through the filter before 1st use, .2L (~7 oz) before each use thereafter and 1L (~1 qt) after having air dried the filter for long term storage. As reported in this update, I had pumped only 12oz of water through the dry filter. It would seem that if an off taste is occurring, it can managed by flushing the filter before filling the container. Will look at this further and update this review again. However, the carbon filter might still be needed to remove mossy or fishy tastes from streams, etc. The original review continues below.
So far I have tested the Katadyn with our hauled tap water, from our rain barrel system (not available for the LS6000 test) and then on to the (brown) spring streams of the Kaibab National Forest, natural standing water "tanks" in the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness and the nicely flowing waters of the Upper Verde River. While the rain barrel water tasted like the tar from our asphalt shingle roof, water filtered from the other sources with the Katadyn/carbon cartridge was a pleasure to drink (used the Steripen in ALL of these waters!). The LS6000 had no follow-on testing because I couldn't produce satisfactory results from our hauled water source.
The output hose for the Katadyn has a spring loaded clip that attaches nicely to my canteen, cup, or most any other container. When using the Pocket with the activated carbon filter, an extra length of tubing is recommended from the output of the carbon filter if it does not fit stably onto your water container. Empty containers with narrow bases can be a little squirrelly to fill. With the Lifesaver, you just unscrew the bottom, submerge, replace the bottom, pump a few times, and open the teat and drink. Putting it back in your pack is a snap. You can also use the LS6000 to fill containers by opening the teat and aiming the pressurized stream accordingly. My Katadyn was supplied with an "O" ringed hose adapter for filling camelpacks.
Using the Katadyn, even without the optional carbon cartridge, is a bit of work for only a 12 oz drinking cup of water. Once you pull this device out of its pouch, connect the hoses and set up the water container, it is best to fill at least 1 32 oz Nalgene bottle, canteen, etc. plus the containers of others in the group. In the wilderness, I would probably want to remove the Katadyn's ceramic cartridge and air dry it every 3-4 days. I also like to blow out the carbon cartridge and dry it as much as possible. I have not had to clean the ceramic cartridge, even after the tar tasting water of the rain barrel. The LS6000 cartridge is a little busier to remove and dry. The integrated activated carbon filter of the LS6000 should probably be left alone unless you are going to replace it. Probably wouldn't bother drying the LS6000 until returning home.
The Lifesaver, because of its teat system, is more of a personal water bottle (kind of like your toothbrush is personal). The teat is designed to be pulled open with your teeth. The LS6000 will become more work in water sources where you are unable to submerge the entire bottle to collect water. Worst case, you have to resort to a smaller scoop, dig or use the supplied sponge to soak up water and squeeze it into the bottle. The LS6000's cartridge can be backwashed, but looks to be a chore. With the Katadyn, I was still able to pump from sources that were only 1 inch deep. As long as you can submerge it, the Lifesaver system gets you collecting water and drinking in seconds while you could still be connecting hoses on the Katadyn. The Lifesaver will be more work to fill containers.
Another minor concern I have with the Lifesaver is that if you neglect to secure the cap for the teat or if its seal deteriorates, you could contaminate it when you submerge it in a water source. With the Pocket, the intake and output hoses are separated substantially, minimizing the potential for cross-contamination. The Katadyn also comes with port caps that should be installed prior to putting it away. Remove the output hose and cap the output port first, then the intake.
As far as maintenance goes, the Lifesaver seemed a little busier to maintain than than the Katadyn. There's really not much to do with the Katadyn if you draw water from clean sources. Clean the ceramic cartridge if it gets harder to pump and use the supplied gauge to measure the diameter of the ceramic if you are cleaning it a lot. Lube the 'O' ring on the pump with the supplied silicone, when necessary. You can download the servicing instructions for both prior to purchase. I certainly recommend that in the course of your decision... Read more›
Katadyn Pocket Water Microfilter

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Water treatment products are in high demand for outdoor enthusiasts, international travelers, and relief agencies. Few are better for long-lasting continuous use, however, than the Katadyn Pocket water microfilter. Made of heavy-duty materials, the Pocket features a silver-impregnated ceramic element that's effective against bacteria and protozoa even in extreme conditions. Unlike disposable filters, the ceramic element can be cleaned several times, even in the field. More importantly, the element filters all microorganisms larger than 0.2 microns (0.0002mm), producing clear, drinkable water no matter where in the world you are. The pump also includes an improved, round pump handle for better ergonomics and an outlet hose that attaches to water containers with a single clip.
The Pocket hails from Katadyn's Endurance series, a high-quality line of filters that produce up to 100 times more water than standard water filters. The Pocket is so tough, in fact, that it's the first choice for extreme adventurers like Mike Horn. Plus, it's the only water filter with a 20-year warranty. Other features include a measuring gauge that indicates when you should change the filtering element, a cushioned base that makes it easy to pump on all surfaces, a prefilter, and a carrying bag.
Why Water Filtration Is ImportantThe World Health Organization (WHO) attributes 80 percent of all travel diseases to contaminated drinking water. Drinking water contains three groups of pathogenic microorganisms: viruses, such as hepatitis A, Norwalk virus, or poliovirus; bacteria, like e-coli, salmonella, and cholera; and protozoans, such as giardia and cryptosporidium. Tap water and ice cubes are usually the culprits when traveling, but even bottled water can be questionable. The backcountry is also a source of waterborne illness. A pristine stream may be safe one day and contaminated the next, as microorganisms stemming from human and animal waste are typically spread by rain and runoff. As a result, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends treating water from every source in the backcountry.
